No matter how complex your community scheme is, the king of insurance has you covered. Your community scheme’s insurance has to cover certain things. There are real rules about this! So, we’ve made sure we fully comply with all the relevant legislation and that the long arm of the law won’t come after you.

Required legislation

Sectional Title Schemes Management Act No. 8 of 2011 says that a body corporate must have insurance for its buildings, any public liability, its office bearer’s liability, and against theft by its members. It can also get extra insurance if the members agree to it with a special vote. So, we’ve made things easier and have automatically included this cover.

A building is considered a permanent structure that’s shown on a sectional title plan as part of a community scheme. We’ll cover your buildings against accidental loss, damage, and theft as long as any part of your policy doesn’t exclude this loss, damage or theft.

So, we’ve included a R1 million fidelity guarantee, including your managing agent, when you insure your buildings and other assets with us. Also, community schemes need public liability cover of at least R10 million… The king has included R50 million cover for this.
